Here are just some of our recent highlights:

  • Played a leading role with sustainability-focused training of City of Madison staff and are supporting its change initiatives to help accelerate its movement toward sustainability.
  • Continued building the North American Eco-Municipality Network. This collaborative of local, state, national and international organizations has assisted communities throughout Wisconsin and in at least five other states to organize community-based sustainability efforts involving their local government.
  • Launched a rain barrel program that exceeded all expectations. We installed 390 rain barrels in the Dane County watershed; next year our goal is 1,000!
  • Drew large audiences to special events, such as, David Korten, author of The Great Turning and founder of Yes! magazine; Kelley Rajala, founder of the Livability Project; John DeGraff, producer of the popular television documentary Affluenza; and Torbjörn Lahti, the “father of the Swedish Eco-Municipality movement.”
  • Organized over 1,000 people since 2005 in centers of faith, workplaces and neighborhoods into sustainability discussion courses. The courses have helped people connect with each other, the Earth, and their deeper values and have inspired groups in Oregon, Monona, the Lake Waubesa watershed area, and others to organize their own community-based sustainability effort.
  • Hosted the Midwest NWEI Discussion Course Regional Training with participants from throughout Wisconsin and as far away as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.
  • Formed new partnerships with The Natural Step Canada, City of Madison, Madison Water Utility, Madison Gas and Electric, University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering , Meriter Health Services, and the Ace Hardware Store on Williamson Street, among others.
