Voluntary Simplicityfocuses on simplifying our lives as a way to make room for meaningful and nourishing activities while living lighter on our Earth.

 

This course addresses the distractions of modern society that keep us from caring for ourselves, our relationships, and our environment.

 

Example Discussion Question:

Consider how your life would be if you lived with less. Is this idea attractive to you? Does the idea cause anxiety?

 

Healthy Children, Healthy Planet allows participants an opportunity to discover ways to create meaningful family time and healthy environments for children.

 

The course is intended to help people understand how the pervasive effects of advertising, media, and our consumer culture can influence a child's view of the world and explore ways to develop a child's connection to nature, and to foster creativity.

Global Warming: Changing C02urse

 

Discovering a Sense of Place

Global Warming: Changing C02urse offers you and opportunity to explore the history and science of global warming, personal values and habits as they relate to climate change, and personal actions to curb the effects of global warming.

Discovering a Sense of Place focuses on knowing and protecting our place on Earth.

 

This course will offer you an opportunity to consider the potential benefits of having a deeper sense of place.

 

Example Discussion Questions:

How would you describe your feeling of responsibility for the land in the neighborhood or the area where you live?

 

What factors have contributed to that feeling of responsibility?

 

Exploring Deep Ecology

 

Choices for Sustainable Living

Exploring Deep Ecology examines our relationship with our Earth through the lens of different Earth-centered philosophies and traditions.

 

This course will offer addresses core values and how they affect the way we view and treat our Earth.

 

Example Discussion Questions:

How would you describe the "ecological self"?

What non-human characteristics are part of your identity?

Choices for Sustainable Living explores the meaning of sustainable living and the ties between lifestyle choices and their impact on our Earth.

 

This course will offer you an opportunity to discuss how life choices, such as what we eat, can have an impact on our Earth.

 

Participants will also learn about practical personal and community activities that will help us to live more sustainably.

Can you think of a principle for example: ethical or ecological) that helps guide you in making decisions?

What is the principle? How is it helpful?

 

The Natural Step for Communities

 

Globalization and It's Critics

The Natural Step for Communities is designed for those who want to better understand what sustainability means and for practitioners interested in introducing or expanding sustainable development in their communities.

Globalization and Its Critics helps participants understand the institutions, processes and effects of globalization.

 

The course will offer you an opportunity to examine how personal choices affect globalization.

 

Example Discussion Question:

If you shop in a small, locally owned business or a large, chain "box store", is there a qualitative difference in the experience?
