The Four Lakes Group of the Sierra Club is an all volunteer organization dedicated to environmental education and conservation. We represent most of Southwest Wisconsin, including Madison. In addition to our conservation work, we put out newsletters, host an active outings calendar, and hold free monthly educational programs. Within Madison we also have a Sierra Student Coalition on the UW campus and an Inner City Outings section working with disadvantaged urban youth.

We are a neighborhood/city/school-district coalition that has conducted site analyses, removed invasive plants, and installed native species of prairie, wetland, and woodland plants on public property. Our goal is to make examples of our ecological heritage readily accessible to all by using city parkland and school district property, and to use service learning in creating and maintaining these interlinking sites. High school students, Scout troops, and neighborhood children have been involved in the hands-on work, along with interested adults from the community. VHRW works in partnership with a variety of public agencies and non-profit organizations.

Water Action Volunteers (WAV) is a program for anyone who wants to learn about and improve the quality of Wisconsin's waterways. Volunteer groups, students, 4-H clubs, and other civic groups are given educational tools to care for a local stream or riverway through projects and hands-on activities. Projects include stream and river water quality monitoring, storm drain stenciling and river clean ups. Water Action Volunteers also serve as a clearinghouse for information on stream- and river-related activities and organizations.

Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Wild Ones is a not-for-profit environmental education and advocacy organization.

Madison Chapter holds monthly programs and tours, which alternate between the 4th Wednesday and the 4th Thursday, exept in December, at 7:00 pm at the Madison library or community center. Specifics on programs and tours appear in the Event Calendar of the Isthmus weekly, and other locations. Other activites include weekend Help-Me Days, plant rescues, and plant ID walks. Through our many interdisciplinary programs and projects, we create what Aldo Leopold called a "thinking community." The Wisconsin Association of Lakes (WAL) is a grassroots non-profit corporation representing over 101,000 lake users concerned about the future of Wisconsin Lakes. The Wisconsin MSR Partnership (formerly WisconsinSUN) promotes the mainstream use of solar energy, including solar electric (photovoltaic) and solar thermal (hot water and air). Partnership participants include the U.S. Department of Energy, the Wisconsin Department of Administration's Division of Energy, MSB Energy Associates, Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation, and the Energy Center of Wisconsin.
