Sustain Dane Events, 2006 - 2010

Additional Years: 1998 & 1999 | 2000-2005

We organize events on a range of sustainability topics. From time to time, we also invite guests from around the world to visit Madison and Dane County to share with us their sustainability experiences. Here's a list of our recent events, speakers and places to get more information.

2007

February - Stop by and visit with Sustain Dane staff and volunteers at the Madison Garden Expo February 9, 10, 11 at the Alliant Center. Volunteers needed to staff the booth. If interested call Sustain Dane at 608 819-0689!

April - Sustain Dane participated in Habitat ReStore's 6th Annual Earth DAy Celebration on April 21, along with more than 25 other earth-friendly vendors. We displayed our rain barrel as well as the prototype for Sustain Dane's new rain diverter, and we talked with participants about the positive impact a rain barrel can have in a garden while reducing storm water runoff and decreasing demand on the aquifer. Sustain Dane staff also provided information about the latest Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) discussion course: Global Warming Changing Co2urse.

April - in celebration of Earth Day, Sustain Dane joined other organizations on April 22nd at Lake Edge Lutheran Church for Faith, Food, and Earth Day 2007. There were booths, educational displays, and a food fair, as well as a special service featuring African drumming and a keynote address by Norman Wirzba, a noted scholar and agrarian. Mr Wirzba, a leading commentator on the connection between food and faith, came highly recommended by Wendell Berry.

April - Sustain Dane participated in the City of Madison's annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. As an invited guest of the Madison Water Utility, Sustain Dane staff talked with the children of Madison employees about water conservation issues and displayed our rain barrel and diverter system as one approach to reducing household water use.

September - All Aboard!: An Autumn Train and Trail Eco-tour Recap. Even though the Autumn Train and Trail Eco-tour was a full 12-hour expedition, the day passed just like the view of railroad ties from the front of a train: one rapidly approaching adventure after the next! Morning arrived on September 29th, the day of the premiere Train and Trail eco-tour, and along with . . .

Over 280 community members attended.

September - The Livability Project has worked in several California communities to help them evolve from an era of cheap natural resources to one of renewable energy and local and green economic development. Executive Director Kelley Rajala talks about the Livability Project’s efforts to help individuals, communities and businesses bring sustainability into the mainstream.

September - Highlights of the 2006 Sustainable Sweden Tour featuring sustainability activities by municipalities, businesses and non-profits in communities throughout Sweden.
