Rain Barrel Program

Water-wise Gardening for a Sustainable Landscape

To protect our quality of life, we must all choose to protect our surface waters and extend the life of the aquifer that provides our drinking water. All proceeds go to support the Rain Barrel program and other Sustain Dane activities. Click here to download a video clip from local news about the program (2MB).

A time-tested practice, Sustain Dane rain barrels capture rainwater to help your plants thrive and reduce your energy use. Sustain Dane has SOLD OUT of Rain Barrels for 2006. Send us an email to be placed on our waiting list to receive a rain barrel in spring 2007.

Rain falls on your roof and first collects in the gutters. Instead of the rain flowing out through your downspout, a connecting device directs the rainwater into your rain barrel.  When you've collected an adequate amount of water, simply turn on the spigot at the bottom of the rain barrel and water your garden or wash your car or bicycle. .Join a Rain Barrel volunteer team and help reduce water pollution by assembling and installing Sustain Dane Rain Barrels throughout the Dane County. Individuals and groups welcome.
