Economics of Happiness

The idea of voting with your dollar is not new, but increasingly it is finding its way into media more often, especially when it comes to food. Wednesday night was a great example: Over 200 people gathered to watch The Economics of Happiness, a documentary about how “going local” can help repair our economies, ecosystems and ultimately improve happiness.
Sustain Dane and four other area non-profits hosted this movie. It was a great chance to talk about localizing our economy (a topic you can find out more about at Dane Buy Local Events). Or, check out the idea of Slow Money, which landed on the Isthmus cover two months ago .
It was a great showing, although my time there was a bit short and distracted. Um... on the way over, carrying Sustain Dane’s new marketing materials, I took a digger (read: fell elbow first on the last winter ice). So if you saw me (Jessie) run out during the panel discussion, I was on my way to Urgent Care. Unfortunately, I will be driving to work for a while as I am in sling with fracture. I plan to be back on bike by our next event!
Our April Eco-Salon will be a great opportunity to continue the dialogue around concrete ways in which you can take actions to localize our economy. Join us for our April Eco-Salon: featuring LIONs, a new investment group that looks to connect investors with local, sustainable businesses. If that doesn’t get you excited, feel free to come just to listen to Rebeca Ryan’s hilarious but spot-on view of our world.
