Madison’s Sustainabilty Plan - Why You Should Care

I recently had the privilege of hearing Alder Satya Rhodes-Conway speak about our City’s new Sustainability Plan. She had a lot of interesting things to say about how it was created, the structure, content, and implementation. Was it a perfect process? No. Does the plan include diverse perspectives? Unclear. Will we know when we are making progress? Not sure. No matter its imperfection this plan does do something very important. It is a tool that allows each of us to think about our life and work in the context of something greater. It gives us a set of community priorities and directions we wouldn’t otherwise have. We may not agree with them all. We may not even understand them all. But it gives our community a vision – a sustainability vision -- that didn’t exist before and I think we each should take some time to get to know it.
