Last month community members and business leaders joined Sustain Dane in celebrating the 2017 cohort of MPower Champions hosted at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Sustain Dane Board Member Steve Whayland, PE LEED AP & Regional Business Development Manager at DC Engineering shared the thoughts of Frank LLoyd Wright on the venue: “a curvilinear gathering place that would link the shore of Lake Monona to the State Capitol.” This aligns with one of the features of the Mpower program of making connections between resources and the business community in Dane County.
I attended and was pleased to see the culmination of all the hard work the Champions put forth this year. We heard about great energy initiatives like Attic Angel’s solar array and SVA, HotelRED, and YMCA of Dane County’s light fixture replacements. We learned about how the cohort gets their peers and employees involved through education at National Guardian Life and J.H. Findorff & Sons and highway clean-ups at UW Credit Union. We listened to Planet Bike applying systems thinking with their end of product life recycling program.
The MPower Team at Sustain Dane is so happy with all the effort put forth by the cohort, and with the impact it will have on Sustainability in Dane County. Of course, the participants had much love to share with us as well. Ben Austin, J.H. Findorff & Sons said "Sustain Dane [MPower] is a great aggregator to show you what’s going on in sustainability in our community.” And Jereme Noffke from Planet Bike shared “We all have a sustainable mindset at Planet Bike, Sustain Dane [MPower] reinvigorated the full team effort.” Thanks guys!
I had a lot of fun helping with 2017’s cohort and I can’t wait to see what businesses we get to work with this year. Applications are now open for the 2018 program, so if you or someone you know is interested in learning more about MPower check out our MPower Information Packet and the FAQ's.
