Portrait of a Sustainable Workplace
Our Sustainable Business Initiative exists to facilitate region-wide transformation. We are helping our region become a national leader that thrives socially, ecologically, and economically by building a green business network, strengthening local capacity for sustainable economic development, recognizing businesses for their leadership, and taking part in many similar endeavors.
To get you started on this journey, join our Mpower ChaMpion Program , and look into achievable measures to “green” your own business:
Facilities: Many businesses begin their journey towards green by improving energy efficiency at their facility and offices. These often are quick, easy changes-and ones which yield returns in 6 months to 2 years.
Operations: green supplies, waste stream: Sustainability at work goes far beyond efficient lighting. Improving recycling procedures is an easy first step. And, office and cleaning supplies, if sourced sustainably and locally, can greatly improve a business’s impact on the environment, not to mention employee’s health and the local economy.
People: training, communication, commuting: The workplace is an influential community. If people are turning lights off at work, they are likely doing so at home too and vice-versa. Employers can easily support and reward staff who act sustainably. Be inspired by these success stories!
